Promoting Techno-preneurship (Technology based enterprises) in NER with Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII)

Implementing Agency: EDII

One of the mandates of NECTAR is to provide trainings on technology demonstration and propagation, skill development and entrepreneurship development in areas of requirement in the NER. In this regard, NECTAR has collaborated with EDII to implement its mandate in the NER. The Indian MSME sector provides maximum opportunities for both self-employment and wage-employment outside the agricultural sector and contributes to building an inclusive and sustainable society in innumerable ways through creation of non-farm enterprises, balanced regional development, gender and social balance, environmentally sustainable development, etc. However, NER records a lower percentage of total MSMEs. This is because, despite attempts by several organizations to inculcate the entrepreneurial spirit, marginal success has been achieved due to the lack of business environment. This indicates that entrepreneurship development with exposure, is the need of the hour not only to take the state on a faster industrial and economic growth but also to solve the growing problem of unemployment, rural migration etc. EDII has identified three major stages of training intervention for promoting entrepreneurship as Pre-Start-up stage, Start-up stage and Survival & growth stage. Accordingly it has classified its entrepreneurship development programme into the following categories: Entrepreneurship Orientation & Awareness Programmes, New Enterprise Creation Programme and Entrepreneurship Programme for existing small business survival & growth.

The project is expected to create outcome and impact over a period of 3 years in terms of the followings:

  1. Human Resource Development
    • 4500 potential/existing entrepreneurs to be sensitized on entrepreneurship.
    • 7800 potential/existing entrepreneurs to be facilitated through technology demonstration programmes, technology propagation programmes, skill development programmes, IPR programmes etc.
  2. Entrepreneurship Development
    • 1125 aspiring/existing entrepreneurs to be nurtured for new enterprise creation through entrepreneurship development programmes.
  3. Socio economic development
    • 2500 existing entrepreneurs will be benefitted by improving their business performance, technology upgradation etc.
    • 350 new enterprises to be created/upgraded
    • 4500 jobs to be generated within the region
    • Migrated workforce to get income generating activities
    • Bringing NER economy to the mainstream
