Aavya Life Science Private Limited has recently developed a Molecular Transport Medium (MTM) for the collection of Covid-19 sample. Product will be useful for the collection of DNA & RNA virus sample i.e., HPV virus, Swine Flu virus, and other hospital acquired infection. The uniqueness of the product is that the sample will be stable at room temperature for up to 7 days. Cold chain is not required during the transportation of sample. The product is approved from Maulana Azad Medical College and ICMR with 100 % sensitivity and specificity.
For the stated project, Aavya Life Science Pvt Ltd had a funding support of Rs 25 Lakhs from North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR).
Outcome and People Benefited: -
All the medical and health workers will be benefitted from the product developed by Aavya Life Science, since the MTM will ensure a contact free collection of samples from the patients. The patients will also be benefitted significantly since it will be very easy for them to purchase the tube containing the MTM from any chemist's shop, put their swaps in it with the MTM and submit it at the sample collection centre. The product is also planned to be kept at a very reasonable price.
The manufacturing unit was inaugurated in the premises of IASST Guwahati on 1st of July 2022, in the presence of Dr Arun Kumar Sharma, Director General, NECTAR; Professor Ashish K. Mukherjee, Director IASST, Guwahati and other NECTAR officials.

NECTAR has taken up a project titled “Tumor margin detection during intraoperative procedure using fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy device”.
The aim of this project is to develop a field-portable smart phone-based fluorescence, spectroscopy and videoscopy device for imaging of breast cancer patients and tumour margin detection. The data collected will be validated with gold standard algorithm for image analysis using software.
Outcome and People Benefited: -
With NECTAR’s technological intervention, the final validations and commercial prototype is ready. Currently, testing of the software for critical analysis of images taken from breast cancer patients during intra operative procedure from AIIMS, New Delhi is undergoing. On successful validation of clinical trials, the device will be commercially available.

As India has been grappling with the Coronavirus pandemic, people are running from pillar to post to arrange hospitals, ICU beds, life-saving medications, ventilators and most importantly ‘oxygen’, to save their loved ones. Arranging these necessities has become tough during this pandemic, since the availability is way less than what the country requires to win this battle. In these testing times, Oxygen Concentrators have turned out to be a ‘saviour’ for the people who are mildly affected with COVID-19 and are trying to recover in home isolation, owing to the shortage of hospital beds.
GRS India has come up with an idea of development of field-portable smart bag pack emergency kit-based oxygen refiller for Covid-19 and other emergency life support, which would be linked to a monitoring mobile APP. It is seen that conventional oxygen support techniques for pulmonary, respiratory and trauma patients in community outreach, are time-consuming, costly and requires sophisticated equipment and procedures.
Therefore, with the support from the North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), GRS has developed a multi-modal, smart phone-based, field-portable oxygen plus kit, which is easy to handle and transport for consistent and cost-effective oxygen supply to maximise community outreach for domestic and disaster purposes.
Outcome and People Benefited: -
The device developed can be used during medical emergency, trauma, disaster etc. by frontline workers, paramedics, fire tenders, nurses, doctors to protect themselves from the immediate risk of breathing contaminated air and carry out their duties with oxygen support.
Presentation and demonstration of the project along with prototype was done in NECTAR conference at Guwahati in presence of Hon Governor of Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi Ji, Hon. DG NECTAR, Dr A K Sharma Ji, Head Vigyan Bharti, Head Seva Bharti and other esteemed experts, academicians, and participant members. Virtual presentation was made to Airfield Marshal, Air Force and Joint Secretary Ministry of Defence, Shri Ved Veer Arya.
